Your privacy matters to us. Biking Companion is designed to keep most ride data on your device, and we limit data sharing to what is needed for core features like mapping and subscriptions. The tables below summarize what data is used, how it is used, and whether it is used for tracking.
Biking Companion is a local-first app. Ride history, ride metrics, bike info, SOS contact details, and most app settings are stored on your iPhone. We do not upload your ride history to our own servers.
| Data or feature | Stored on your iPhone | Sent to external services | Who receives it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ride history (route points, distance, duration, speed) | Yes | No | No one |
| Location lookup or reverse geocoding | Yes | Yes | Apple map and location services |
| Subscription purchase and restore status | Yes | Yes | Apple StoreKit and App Store services |
| Permission | Why we ask | How data is used | If denied |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location access (While Using / Always) | To record rides, calculate speed and distance, show nearby places, and support background ride tracking. | Location points are used for ride maps and ride stats. Some location lookups use Apple services. | Tracking and location-based features may be limited or unavailable. |
| Motion and fitness access | To support crash-related detection and ride-state behavior. | Motion data helps power safety-related app behavior. | Crash-related behavior may be reduced. |
| Contacts access | To let you select SOS contact(s). | Contact data is used only for the SOS contact selection flow. | SOS contact picker functionality may be unavailable. |
This table explains what each data type is used for, whether it can identify you, and whether it is used for tracking.
| Data type | How it is used | Can it identify you? | Used for tracking or ads? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location (Precise, Coarse) | Used to record rides, calculate speed and distance, show maps, and find nearby places. | Yes | No |
| Contacts | Used only if you choose an SOS contact. | No | No |
| Purchases | Used to verify and restore your Pro subscription status through Apple. | Yes (via your Apple account) | No |
| Diagnostics | Not collected by this app. | No | No |
| Identifiers | Not collected by this app. | No | No |
SOS features are assistive only and do not constitute emergency monitoring or dispatch services. Biking Companion is not responsible for failures caused by unavailable cellular, Wi-Fi, satellite, GPS, operating system restrictions, power state, hardware limitations, or emergency infrastructure outages.
Most app data is retained locally on your device until you delete it in-app (where available) or remove the app. If you delete the app, locally stored ride history, settings, and related local data are removed from that device. Data restored from Apple device/iCloud backup is controlled by Apple backup settings and Apple account behavior. Biking Companion may store short-lived local recovery snapshots to help recover an interrupted in-progress ride; those snapshots are cleared after recovery, discard, or normal ride completion.
Biking Companion is offered in the United States and Canada. Depending on applicable law, including U.S. state privacy laws (such as California CPRA) and Canadian privacy requirements, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information we control. Contact us using the support address above and include enough information for us to process and verify your request.
Because Biking Companion is local-first, the security of your data depends in significant part on your device security settings, operating system protections, and Apple account safeguards. We use reasonable safeguards for the app architecture, but no method of storage, transmission, or processing is guaranteed to be 100% secure.
The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction).
We may update this policy and will revise the effective date when changes are posted.

By downloading or using Biking Companion, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
The app license is governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA): Apple Standard EULA. These Terms cover service-specific usage and policies for Biking Companion.
You must be legally capable of entering a binding agreement to use Biking Companion. If you use the app on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any app feature at any time, including free and paid features, with or without notice, to the extent permitted by law.
Certain features require an auto-renewing subscription purchased through Apple In-App Purchase. Subscription processing is handled by Apple, not directly by Biking Companion.
Many Biking Companion features depend on required connectivity and platform services, including but not limited to GPS/location services, cellular data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, satellite, Apple platform services, and emergency communication systems.
SOS features do not guarantee successful emergency contact, relay, or response. You are responsible for contacting local emergency services directly when needed.
Biking Companion, including its software, design, text, graphics, and trademarks, is owned by Biking Companion or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Except as expressly allowed by law, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from the app.
The app is provided "as is" and "as available" to the maximum extent permitted by law, without warranties of uninterrupted or error-free operation.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Biking Companion and its affiliates, licensors, and service providers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses arising from or related to your use of the app. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims related to the app will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid for Biking Companion subscriptions in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $50.
To the extent permitted by law, these Terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes relating to these Terms or use of the app that are not subject to arbitration will be handled in the state or federal courts located in the District of Columbia, unless otherwise required by non-waivable law.
Please read this section carefully. It affects your rights, including your right to file a lawsuit in court and your right to participate in class or representative actions.
Before filing a claim, you agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting bikingcompanion@gmail.com with a written notice that includes your name, contact information, a description of the issue, and the requested resolution. If we cannot resolve the dispute informally within 30 days, either party may proceed as described below.
Except for disputes that qualify for small claims court and disputes involving intellectual property or injunctive relief, disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of Biking Companion will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration, not by a court or jury trial.
Arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its applicable Consumer Arbitration Rules. If those rules conflict with this section, this section controls to the extent permitted by law. Arbitration will take place in the District of Columbia unless both parties agree to a different location, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you and Biking Companion agree that each may bring claims against the other only in an individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding.
Either party may bring an eligible claim in small claims court on an individual basis.
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement and class-action waiver by sending written notice to bikingcompanion@gmail.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Your notice must include your full name, account/app identifier (if any), and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of arbitration.
You may stop using Biking Companion at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to the app or specific features if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, created legal risk, or misused the service.
You agree to comply with applicable U.S. and Canadian export control and sanctions laws. You represent that you are not located in, ordinarily resident in, or otherwise prohibited from using the app under applicable export or sanctions restrictions.
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, form the entire agreement between you and Biking Companion regarding your use of the app and supersede prior or contemporaneous agreements on that subject.
